The Test Of Time
For thousands of years people have lived in the Mojave Desert and Great Basin Region. This area is considered to have a well established projectile point sequence reflecting this occupation.
Below is a basic summary of these points, although several other groups and sub-groups exist, these are considered the major time markers.
Clovis Fluted Series 12,500 - 9000BP
Lake Mojave Series 12,500 - 7000BP
Silver Lake Series 11,000 - 7000BP
Pinto Basin Series 8,000 - 2650BP
Elko Series 3,500 - 1200BP
Eastgate Series 1,500 - 400BP
Rose Springs Series 1,600 - 600BP
Cottonwood Series 1,100 - 200BP
Desert Side Notch Series 700 - 200BP
Again, this is a basic summary of the time periods. Time periods and variations in style can overlap depending on the geographic location and context in which they are found.
My recent display at the Antelope Valley Fair highlighted this point sequence. Titled "The Ancient Art of Flintknapping", it represented these point types and other projectile points as well.
